Happy 2014 everyone! I just realized I hadn't posted anything since Christmas. We are still in Akaroa, we have recently moved from Halfmoon Cottage Backpackers to Akaroa village, in an apartment below the restaurant owners' house. We have been getting lots of hours at the restaurant, and on our few days off we have been going to one of the nearby bays, or going to Christchurch. Last week we went to the mall and saw a movie. There really are so many similarities with New Zealand and the States, especially in suburbs of cities. Lots of chain stores and fast food restaurants, and although the clothing styles in the malls are different, and McDonalds offers a Kiwiburger (with egg and sliced beet) on the menu, its really not that different from home sometimes. We are really craving some Mexican food or BBQ though!
So here are some photos from the last month or so, not much else to say about our time in Akaroa since the last post. It has been pretty cold, low 60's this week, and rainy sometimes. Not that great for summer! Again, we should be here until the first week of March before moving on.
We have booked our flights home! April 17 is the big day, we fly out of Auckland around 9pm and arrive in L.A. around noon. On April 17th. Weird. Getting sad about the fact that we have only 2 1/2 months left, but we are excited to come home, too.
